Wall Preparation

Glasstex painted substrate specification

The following is our considered specification for the hanging of Glass Fibre Wallcovering (Glasstex) onto a painted substrate.

Preparation

  1. The substrate surface should be sound, dry, clean and free from damp, dust and grease. Remove any old Wallcoverings and any loose or flaking paint. Any signs of damp or mould should be rectified and cured at the source. Fill holes and large cracks.
  2. Flat the surface by abrading lightly with abrasive paper to create a key, use a scraper for any imperfections.

Hanging Glass Fibre Wallcovering (Glasstex)

  1. Apply a liberal and even coat of the recommended adhesive to the substrate using a short to medium nap roller, at the recommended rate of 5 m²/kg. Ensure the adhesive has sufficient open time for hanging the Wallcovering.
  2. Caution, This adhesive must not be diluted.
  3. Apply the Wallcovering imbedding it into the adhesive. Butt edges, Do not use a seam roller. Allow adhesive to dry overnight and then apply two coats of paint.

Ensure that the working environment is adequately heated and ventilated. Check that the adhesion is adequate after a trial hang before proceeding further. If in doubt seek advice.

The recommendation supplied is made without guarantee since the conditions of use are beyond our control.

Glasstex non-absorbent substrate specification

The following is our considered specification for the hanging of Glass Fibre Wallcovering (Glasstex) onto a non-absorbent substrate.

Preparation

  1. The substrate surface should be sound, dry, clean and free from damp, dust and grease. Remove any old Wallcoverings and any loose or flaking paint. Any signs of damp or mould should be rectified and cured at the source.
  2. Wash down the surface with Sugar Soap (diluted according to manufacturers instructions) to remove any dirt and grease, flat the surface by abrading the surface lightly with abrasive paper to create a key, use a scraper for any imperfections.
  3. Rinse with clean water to remove any contaminant from the substrate.
  4. Apply one coat of HallsBeeline Primer Sealer (or equivalent acrylic primer suitable for Wallcoverings using the recommended dilution of 1 part clean Water: 1 part Primer Sealer to the substrate. or Glasstex non-absorbent substrate primer Applied at the recommended rate of 16 m²/kg to the substrate. Allow to fully dry.
